How To Upload Video and Downloadable Files To Your Web Server

Do you have a video that you wish to publish directly on your website or a downloadable PDF eBook that you want to offer to your website readers? There are several ways to accomplish this, and in this video series I will cover the basics of uploading files to your BlueHost or HostGator web hosting provider. If you’re hosting your site on HostGator you will need to install a FTP client on your desktop such as FileZilla, or you can use UnlimitedFTP Online (I will also show one way to upload files through the file manager if you don’t want to use FTP). One of the things that I love about BlueHost is that you get an FTP client right in your C-Panel.

Uploading Files To Your Web Server Introduction:

On my Free How-To WordPress Mini-Course page you will see that I have videos that are installed directly on the site rather than on YouTube. I also have a downloadable site organizer zip folder file that people can download to their desktops. In this video series I show how I installed these features by creating a new folder on my server and then linked them directly to my self-hosted content files.

Uploading Files To Your Web Server Part One:
Creating A Folder

The first thing we need to do is create a new folder to store our files on the server. In this video I show how to create a folder using the file manager located in your Bluehost or HostGator C-Panel.

Uploading Files To Your Web Server Part Two:
Uploading and Testing File Path

Once we have a new folder created the next step is to actually upload the files into our new folder. We will need to figure out the “path” to these files so that we can use the link to embed them onto our websites.

Uploading Files To Your Web Server Part Three:
Installing and On-Site Linking

Now that we know that our path to the file is actually working we can now install the audio, video, or PDF files onto our site so our viewers can access these files. I’m using the Video Showcase plugin by PluginBuddy here at CyberSmartWebMarketing to display videos.
